The 1979 FJ40 was the first offer power steering was an option. From what I have been able to determine, the Power steering gear box will mount directly to the existing manual steering bracket. The steering rod/rag joint lines up with the new power steering gear box to couple the two together.'85 FJ60 kept busting the steering gearbox so after getting a lot of advice I bought a rebuilt 80 series box and had the shop throw it in while some other work was being done. System was instantly leaking. Turns out they overfilled the pump. I removed excess fluid.
