You should be able to just right click and select barricade. Try to go outside of your safe house and barricade from there. Sometimes it does not want to show up if you're inside. Make sure that if you have a box of nails that you select "unpack" and break it into 100 individual nails before trying to barricade. Alternatively, climbing up and then down a sheet rope again (or into and out of a car) fixed the problem for me. IIRC there are some types of hammers that can't be used for this.Make sure the nails are unboxed and click toward the bottom of the window, the tile it sits on instead of the window itself. For the OP, probably the best bet is to have weak zombies with poor senses and poor memories, such that they tend to leave you alone, and aren't a threat when encountered.
